I am trying to enroll in college and need scholarships. I took a couple years off so I guess I’m what u call a non traditional student. I’m having a hard time finding scholarships for my circumstance. Also I’ve heard that there are a lot of scholarship scams out there so I really need a lil advice.

Best answer:

Answer by Chris C
fastweb.com.
As far as scams go, never pay someone an application or any other fee for free money. Never provide your social security number to anyone wanting to give you free money unless it is the federal government.

Question by Gayle B: Where can I find FREE federal grants for small business start up ?
Need info to start a truck company hauling dirt, etc

Best answer:

Answer by questionable reality
This is a popular misconception. Government grants are reserved for non-profits, or to foster innovation; to back companies developing cutting edge technology which is viewed as too risky for conventional financing, but necessary to keep the U.S. in the lead technologically. The only assistance offered to small businesses is an SBA loan. For this you will need excellent credit, a business plan, and some of your own money to put in. With an SBA loan, the Government doesn’t give you money, nor do they loan it to you. The Government becomes your co-signor guaranteeing 80% of your loan back to the bank if you default. There is NO free or easy way to start a business. That’s why most end in bankruptcy. Personally, based on the type of business you want to start I think you’ll be wasting your time with SBA. Talk to a local lender about financing your first truck and perhaps a small operating line of credit. Or, look online for leasing companies to finance the truck. Keep in mind that most construction companies you work for will be very slow payers. You’ll probably need about two months operating expenses saved up to float you until you start receiving payments.

I am giving birth in Febuary and I am searching for government assistance to establish a home for me and my newborn when she arrives and I have to pay just to et information on applying for a grant. I know that there has to be someone out there who can help me with info on how to apply for a free grant; hopefully to buy a home.

Best answer:

Answer by Ree Ree
Depending on what state you live in there are a lot of grants. The first one is called S.H.I.P this is a county grant and will give you up to $ 75,000 based on your income. The next one is called First Time Home buyers Grant this is granted if you live within city limits some cities give you $ 30 to $ 50, 000 which ever is their max. There is a grant called the Hero’s grant if you are a Teacher, Sworn Officer, Nurse or Firefighter. you can go to your state’s website or www.myflorida.com. There are grants to help you fixed up a house or get your lights/water connected. Everthing is income based. You can also go to the city you live and ask them about the grant (City Hall) Remember all grants have restrictions. Please don’t go online and pay for unnecessary grants all of the information is well in your reach and tell your mortgage broker you want a FHA loan (not credit based)

Question by lildiesel2001: Where can you find Government grants for agricultural purposes?
I am looking to start a small cattle business, and would like to know if there is any way that I can receive government assistance in the form of a grant. Does anyone know of a legitimate institute, phone number, or website that can provide me with the correct information. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by imisidro
You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance, http://www.cfda.gov which is the main database that lists all government grants. Here is the section on agricultural grants http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALOG.FUNCTIONAL_AREA_RPT2.SHOW?p_arg_names=func_cat_cd&p_arg_values=A

I can see grants for improving production, farm storage facilities, and grants that facilitate the development of organic agriculture production, breeding, and processing methods — but not a single one for starting a cattle business.

Typically, it is hard to find grants to start a business — even for an agricultural business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business.

Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/mostrequesteditems/CON_FAQ2.html

“The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments.”

I am a Junior in high school and I want to began looking into different scholarships and colleges ASAP!

Can I start applying this year for scholarships or wait til my Senior year?

Is it true that each semester in college you can apply for new scholarships?

Best answer:

Answer by apropos92
By all means start applying now. I started in middle school. Most high schools have an office for financial aid counseling. They have books full of scholarship offers for which you can apply. Go there on your lunch breaks, and apply for anything you can find.
